High-Speed VXD Autofocus

The 35-150mm A058 Nikon Z uses TAMRON’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism.

The VXD system is designed to provide fast, precise and responsive autofocus performance. This is particularly useful for portrait photography, where the ability to quickly acquire focus can help photographers capture fleeting expressions and spontaneous moments.

The autofocus system also makes the lens suitable for a wide range of moving subjects and everyday shooting situations.

Although the A058 covers a substantial telephoto range, it can also focus relatively close to subjects.

At 35mm, the minimum object distance is 0.33m, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.7. At 150mm, the minimum object distance is 0.85m, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.9.

The A058 uses an optical construction of 21 elements in 15 groups.

Its design is intended to provide high-resolution performance throughout the 35-150mm zoom range, allowing photographers to maintain detailed images from wide-angle compositions through telephoto portraits.

The lens also features a nine-blade circular diaphragm, which contributes to smooth rendering of out-of-focus areas when shooting with wider apertures.

Designed for Comfortable Handling

TAMRON developed a refined physical design for the A058 with an emphasis on handling and ergonomics.

The zoom and focus rings use redesigned grip textures, while the body around the rings has been shaped to provide a more comfortable grip. The zoom ring’s stiffness and torque were also adjusted for smoother and more precise operation.

The lens has a maximum diameter of 89.2mm and uses an 82mm filter size. The Nikon Z version measures 160.1mm in length and weighs 1,190g.

TAMRON Lens Utility Compatibility

The A058 supports TAMRON Lens Utility, giving photographers and videographers additional options for customizing supported lens functions.

For Nikon Z users, firmware updates have also expanded compatibility with newer versions of TAMRON Lens Utility and Lens Utility Mobile. The current Nikon Z firmware supports Lens Utility Ver. 5.0 and Lens Utility Mobile Ver. 5.0.

This provides additional flexibility for users who want to configure compatible lens functions for their shooting workflow.

Moisture-Resistant Construction

The 35-150mm Nikon Z travel lens is designed for outdoor shooting with moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating.
